The addition of Beast Wars characters to the live-action Transformers films is certainly exciting, but it's already clear the movie will make some big changes when adapting their story. The movie is confirmed to include Maximals, Predacons, and another villainous faction, the Terrorcons, and of the Maximal characters, their leader Optimus Primal, Rhinox, and Airazor are all set to appear.

Optimus Prime will again be a central figure alongside Bumblebee, their fellow Autobots, and their human allies Noah (Anthony Ramos) and Elena (Dominique Fishback). Transformers: Rises of the Beasts will be set in 1994, placing it between Bumblebee's 1987 setting and the present day of the Michael Bay Transformers universe. This is done not so much for disguise but as a way of protecting their robotic forms from the dangerously high energy levels of the prehistoric planet. There, they continue waging war, but rather than assuming alternate vehicular forms, the Maximals and Predacons transform into animals. The series is set 300 years after the original cartoon, but in a twist, its characters are sent through a wormhole to prehistoric Earth.

Up until now, the Transformers live-action movies have largely been concerned with the struggle between Autobots and Decepticons, warring factions of robotic beings from the planet Cybertron. Based mostly on the first Transformers cartoon of the 1980s, these films see iconic characters like Optimus Prime, Bumblebee, and Megatron bring their war to Earth where they assume disguises based on automobiles and airplanes.īeast Wars is a sequel to the 1980s Transformers cartoon and it follows the conflict between two new factions: Maximals and Predacons, the successors to the Autobots and Decepticons.

Transformers: Rise of the Beasts is introducing Beast Wars characters to the live-action Transformers movies, but it will need to make some changes to their story in order to do so.
